Abstract

The results presented in this paper refer to the analysis, studies, and efforts undertaken by students in the 7th-semester, 1st-semester 2025 Mechanical Engineering Project course at UniFOA. During the semester, students worked to obtain an initial representation of an axially finned heat pipe heat exchanger in parallel flow, with guidance and guidance from their professors, based on a previously defined initial design. The two prototype designs under discussion were considered satisfactory, representing a first approximation of the prototype to be completed. In addition to the prototype representation, the students obtained numerical and graphical results from analytical simulation associated with the heat exchanger's evaporator. The results obtained refer to the physical quantities of interest for analyzing the evaporator's thermal performance. The physical quantities obtained were air velocity, overall heat transfer coefficient, number of thermal units (NTU), Nusselt number, thermal effectiveness, heat transfer rate, and air outlet temperature. The main parameters used in the analysis were the number of heat pipes, the number of fins per tube, the saturation temperature of the working fluid (water), the filling ratio of the working fluid, the air inlet temperatures to the evaporator, the evaporator length, and the air mass flow rates. The study used as a reference and object of comparison a study published in an international journal on air conditioning systems for surgical rooms, using a crossflow evaporator design.
